About LED Light Strips

Tape light is sold by brightness, not by watts, and that's the only number that really matters when you're choosing. Here's how our three tiers compare.

Three brightness tiers

Output What it does Use it for
100 lm/ft A soft glow. You see the light, not the lit surface Accent, cove, toe kick, deck and pool edges, aquarium moonlight
250 lm/ft Genuinely lights the surface below it Under cabinets, shelves, stair treads, closets
650 lm/ft Primary light for the space Kitchen counters as the main task light, display cases, workbenches

Indoor or outdoor

Waterproof versions are potted in silicone and rated for outdoor use — pool coping, deck rails, patio covers, landscape edges. Indoor versions are bare tape, which is slimmer and easier to tuck into a channel under a cabinet.

Colors

Cool white, warm white, blue, green, amber and 445nm deep blue actinic. The actinic and blue strips are popular for aquarium moonlighting; amber is the one that doesn't attract bugs on a patio.
